Summer Health Careers Camp is a free one-week career exploration and college preparation experience that supports up to 20 area high school students interested in nursing and health sciences. Programming features a unique blend of classroom and immersion activities (math, science, study skills, healthcare, admissions/financial aid, tours of local health facilities as available, and career sessions) designed to increase access to educational and employment opportunities.

The Allen College Summer Health Careers Camp provides high school students with opportunities to learn about nursing and health careers programs. Participants focus on improving math and literacy skills, test-taking, and overall preparation for college. Hands-on activities are the foundation of the camp, along with field trips to area health care facilities and higher education institutions. The camp has inspired numerous students to pursue their passion in health care.

"I have learned so many important things. Camp gave a different look at life, and believe it or not it changed me as a person. Because of camp I want to go in to mental health. Camp wasn't just about nursing it was about getting to know yourself and others, and getting to know what you do and don't like. I am VERY thankful for Dr. Mingo and I thank her and everyone who invested time into camp this summer from the bottom of my heart." - 2018 Camp Graduate

"I always have struggled with my math so having this extra summer camp experience helped me refresh and learn new math skills that were not there before. I will be able to take those concepts and apply them to do better in my college courses. Allen Summer Nurse and Health Careers Camp overall made me decide on my major because it showed me the inside of medicine instead of seeing it just through the patients' perspective." - 2018 Camp Graduate
